Adopt or Foster

Salem looking out rv window.
Two cats that lived with us traveled over 10,000 miles. This senior fellow traveled and had no problem wearing a sweater in snowy weather. Teaching animals to travel simply requires patience and slow, gradual steps to make it a good experience.

Who’s Available Today?

Sorry, we don’t have any cats available for adoption at this time.

Occasionally, Catnip Casa has kitties that are ready to adopt. Some only need temporary medical care. Others have special needs that can be managed easily in a home, with our support and training. In these cases, we want our beautiful kitties to find their perfect home.

We love all cats in our care and often know they will be here for life.

A forever home with their own family is perfect for those who don’t need rehab or pawspice care, and it allows us to help another kitty. You help two kitties when you adopt.

How do I adopt a kitty?

  • The first step is to contact us and arrange to meet the kitty you want to adopt.
  • Catnip Casa Cat Refuge will email or mail an adoption application, or you can fill out an application while you visit us and meet the kitty you saw online to find out if you are a good match. Don’t worry, it’s short and simple!
  • Please, bring the entire family or significant other to meet the kitty. Successful adoption depends on everyone being on board for this new responsibility.
  • Both of us will sign a simple one-page adoption contract. No major hassles!

What else should I know?

  • We know everyone is excited about a new pet. However, we never send the kitty home with you on the same day.
  • Depending on the cat, we may ask for additional meetings and play sessions here to let the cat get to know you and make the transition easier for both of you. Remember, we work with senior and special needs cats.
  • In some cases, we need time to get medications and prescription foods set up for you, transfer records to your vet, and/or teach you how to give a medication. This varies depending on the cat.
  • You receive his/her medical records, a sturdy travel crate, and a favorite toy and blanket or sleeping pad to make him/her feel at home while getting used to a new family.
  • Our adoptions include follow-up support for a minimum of six months, more for special needs adoptions.
  • Catnip Casa always allows a cat to be returned for any reason. Life happens.
  • Also, ask about our foster-to-adopt program for seniors and special needs kitties when we have kitties that seem ready for their own families. Interested? Ask for details.
